5 Reasons to Do Your SEXercises

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 9.45.15 PMIn honor of Back to Sex Basics month, it’s time to address that elephant in the room: Your sexual satisfaction.

People seem to think that improving something as monumental as your sex life can only be accomplished by BIG moves, GRAND gestures and HUGE commitments, which is probably why they don’t make them. But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: there is actually an alarmingly simple move that will not only make your sex life better by way of stronger and more frequent orgasms, but is also beneficial to your overall health. So what is this mysterious sex life-saver? A special little squeeze called the Kegel.

Kegel exercises are the internal and controlled contractions of your pelvic floor muscles. The best way to understand the feeling and location of these muscles is to restrict your flow when you’re peeing; the same muscles that contract to stop your stream are the ones you can strengthen with Kegel exercises. One of the best things about Kegels is that they can be done at any time or place discreetly – like while you’re waiting in the airport, sipping a latte, for example.

But let’s start at the basics: What exactly do Kegels do?

Kegel exercises work out the PC muscles (also known as pubococcygeous muscles) that run from the pubic bone to the tailbone and support your pelvic floor, the control of urine flow and have a starring role in the strength of your orgasm – But I’m getting ahead of myself. The fact is, Kegels have a lot of benefits, both in and out of the bedroom. So without further ado, here are five undeniable reasons to never skip your kegels, for man and woman alike.

1. Urinary Incontinence

Increased age can bring difficulties in places where they never existed before. Whether painful, embarrassing or detrimental to your health, there are plenty of reasons to keep your body in shape and help to deter these natural side effects of aging. For both men and women, a strong and healthy pelvic floor can make a world of difference in controlling your bladder and dealing with incontinence. Aside from unwanted urinary leakage, strong PC muscles also lessen the urge to have to pee and can help treat, prevent or delay incontinence. You will have better control over your entire pelvic floor the more you keep up with your Kegel workouts, meaning no more peeing when you laugh or sneeze!

2. Prostate Cancer

Emily was just interviewed by Movember (a company dedicated to the health & wellness of men, you’ll recognize them best by their trademark mustache logo & bearded, sexy men) on the topic of essential tips for men’s health. Did Kegels make the list? Of course they did! Doctors recommend Kegels before and after prostate cancer surgery to help re-strengthen the weakened PC muscles. These exercises aren’t just for recovery, however. Maintaining a strong floor on your own can also really help to lessen the likelihood of future problems with your prostate, which is a leading cause of serious health issues in males. That’s right, doing your SEXercises is both preventative and healing!

3. Restoration after childbirth

Childbirth can put an immense amount of stress and pressure on your lower region (no surprises there) which can weaken the pelvic floor, leading to incontinence, decreased sexual pleasure or the sagging of pelvic organs onto the pelvic muscles. Doctors advise practicing Kegels regularly both during pregnancy and after giving birth. These exercises greatly help to restore and tone the muscles that suffered during childbirth and can minimize unwanted side effects associated with a weak pelvic floor. For many new mothers, Kegels are the secret to regaining their confidence and getting back their sex life.

4. Great Sex for Women

For any and all women, Kegels are absolutely the key to a mind-blowing sex life. Regularly flexing these muscles not only makes you tighter down there, but also gives you more powerful orgasms! How does this magic take place, you may be wondering. Orgasms, in the most scientific sense of the word, are really intense contractions of your pelvic floor muscles. Strengthening them with Kegel exercises increases blood flow down there and helps to bring on multiple contractions where there were once just singles! Those ladies who keep up with their SEXercises also experience better (and easier to find) G-spot orgasms, in addition to increased sensitivity all over.

And now, doing your Kegels just got so much easier! Thanks to the great minds at Pour Moi, there is now a device called the Intensity that works as half stimulation device half vibrator. Yes, what I’m telling you is that there is now a life-changing device that stimulates your PC muscles, doing your kegel exercises for you, WHILE giving you orgasms! You can find your very own here: Intensity by Pour Moi

5. Great Sex for Men

Kegels are an essential practice for a thriving sex life, and not just for the fairer sex. For those with penises, strong pelvic floor muscles provide more control over the flow of semen and the shooting power of ejaculation, as well as helping to maintain a stronger and longer-lasting erection. That’s right, they even increase your stamina in bed! You hear that, guys? Keeping up with these simple exercises makes sex feel better for both you and your partner AND will help you to last longer in bed. Is there anything PC muscles can’t do?!
