If you’ve been reading my sex-o-scopes for a while, you’ve probably noticed me mention Mars and Venus placements.
Most people with a cursory knowledge of Astrology are familiar with the concept of a “sun sign” (sometimes also referred to as your “zodiac sign”), but that’s about it. Not very comprehensive, which also means not very helpful when it comes to using Astrology for love and sex.
So today we are going to dive a little deeper into how to use astrology to improve your love and sex life. Welcome to the beautiful world of Mars and Venus placements.
The Full Astrological Picture
While knowing your “sun sign” is helpful, it’s only one small piece of a larger astrological puzzle. To really explore astrology, you need your full natal chart (sometimes called a “Birth Chart”). In order to do a natal chart, you need to know your birth time and birthplace. Then you can give that information to an astrologer, or use a website like Astro, or an app like Co-Star.
Once you’ve received your chart, check out your Mars and Venus placements, and write them down. Then head back here to learn all about what they mean.
Venus: The Planet of Love
Venus is the warmest planet in the solar system, is close in size to Earth, and is the only planet in our solar system named after a female goddess. In Greek mythology, her name is Aphrodite, and she is the goddess of love, pleasure, beauty, and aesthetics. She is the ruling planet of both Libra and Taurus, hence their shared love of earthly pleasures and glamour. Click here for more info on Venus as a Goddess.
Similarly, in astrology, the planet of Venus is also known to rule love, pleasure, beauty, and aesthetics. Learning about your Venus placement will help you understand what you value, where your natural inclination for romance lies, and what pleasures you enjoy.
You might not be surprised to learn that Venus is very indulgent. She is a hopeless romantic and she wants what she wants, regardless of what’s best for you. This is important to know because Venus isn’t great at identifying what you need. When you learn about your motives, passions, and desires, you can harness them in a more mindful way.
Mars: Ruler of Sex & Passion
While dreamy Venus floats around in the land of indulgence and daydreams, Mars is a very fiery, action-oriented planet. Mars rules lust, passion, action, and of course, sex. It’s often associated with bodily desires over mental ones. Sometimes called the “animal instinct” planet. Aggression style also falls under the rule of Mars, which includes the way you pursue what you want in life (and in love).
So, when simplified; Venus informs us as to our desires in love, pleasures, and romantic attraction, and Mars shows us our primal nature, basic sexuality, and how we will pursue our goals.
Making It Personal
Okay, so now you know a bit about what each planet governs, next astro lesson we are going look at what this means for each sign. Look up your own Mars and Venus placements, of course, and see what resonates with you, as well as what you may have been avoiding or ignoring.
