Sex Toy Makers To The Rescue: How Covid-19 Is Affecting The Industry

Covid-19 is changing the world as we know it. One industry that is seeing a big boom in sales due in part to the stay-at-home orders and a growing need for self-pleasure is the sex toy industry.

With masturbation being the one truly safest sex you can have during quarantine, finding and purchasing a new toy has become something of a new pastime. Being able to order online has also fed into the rush to purchase a new sex toy during lockdown. Yet, as the LA Times reports, “sex-toy sales are up, stigma is down.”

Meanwhile, one sex toy maker, Muse, has switched over its manufacturing from lube to hand sanitizer.

Muse makes a big pivot.

It’s not often you get to hear about a sex-based wellness company focused on, well, regular wellness. But Muse really outdid itself and pivoted in an inspiring way to help out in this global health crisis.

In April, our great friends at Muse knew they wanted to help folks on the front line. So they decided to stop everything, literally. You may know about Muse and how great their range of lubes are, including all those awesome flavored lubes.

But, when the Coronavirus hit, Muse shut their entire California-based operation down and started producing high-quality Hand Sanitizer, and nothing else. This even inspired them to shift their focus to wellness, launching the all new MuseHealth.com website.

This shift to hand sanitizers is a bold move considering well the sex toy industry is doing right now. Don’t worry, though – after we get through Covid-19, Muse will get back to making all the awesome lube. Right now, we want to celebrate our affiliation with a company that dropped everything for the cause of health and wellness in the time of Corona.

Muse Hand Sanitizer

And they are doing it right! Muse Hand Sanitizer contains 62% alcohol by weight, which meets the CDC’s recommendations for hand sanitizer. Apparently, 60% alcohol is necessary for the sanitizer to dissolve a cell wall in order to eradicate it (and that includes germs and some viral material). Given the rush on Covid-19 cleaning and sanitizing supplies, chances are you can use some hand sanitizer right about now. Muse’s hand sanitizer is pretty special.

Muse 8 oz, antibacterial hand sanitizer “stops the spread of bacteria by bringing together an intense cleaning effect wrapped inside of a safe to the touch formula…characterized by a cooling sensation, that provides a sense of relief from the outset.”

Muse even has a blog post on how to use hand sanitizer! Here are some great tips from Muse:

  • Remove any jewelry or other debris from your hands
  • Use a quarter-size portion of sanitizer
  • Make sure to rub both the inside and outside (ie, front and back) of your hands
  • Give your hands around 30 seconds to dry off (but don’t blow on them – that defeats the purpose!)

You can stock up and avoid picking some up on your grocery store run, which often leaves you empty handed. Thanks, Muse! General health and safety supports sexual safety. Stay safe, healthy and sexy out there!
