On today’s show, Emily is joined by a naturopath & medical doctor who specializes in women’s health and author of “Beyond the Pill,” Dr. Jolene Brighten to talk about the truth behind birth control, as well as other ways to be your healthiest, sexiest self.
Ah, hormonal birth control, such a contentious topic for such a small pill. It can help prevent pregnancy, regulate periods, and improve symptoms of hormonal imbalance.
Where would so many of us be without birth control? Starting a family long before we were ready? Terrified of sex before we met “the one,” which for some could result in 40-year-old virgin status? Or, would we be one of the few lucky ones who never misses a period?
Unfortunately for millions of women around the world, these situations are very real. They are never taught about “family planning” and contraception, they don’t have access to it, and for some, it’s too expensive.
Thankfully, there are people out there that understand birth control is something all women should be entitled to having. The people at Bedsider.org started a campaign called #THXBirthControl – designed to break down the archaic stigmas attached to contraception and help teens and young women find the right method for them.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, condoms play a key role when it comes to sex these days. Between how easy they are to get, and how much protection they help provide, there’s no denying the 98%-worth of perks they bring to the table.
So much like the trendiness of Facebook or state of T.J. Miller’s career, would you believe the use of condoms is actually on a steep decline?
Happy Steak and Blowjob Day! I like to joke that there’s no problem oral sex can’t solve, but (tragically) that’s not always the case. On today’s podcast, Emily tackles some of those love and sex questions that are hard to ask and don’t always come with an easy answer.
Should you pursue Round 2 with an ex-one night stand? Are you sick and tired of pulling out? What’s the best way to bring up backdoor play with a hesitant partner? Emily and Anderson offer good news for some, reality checks for others, and plenty of sage advice to help listeners in their sexual time of need. Continue Reading
I am happy to announce that I have finally found THE ONE. I have to admit, it was rough going for a while. After my rocky history of incompatible pairings and utter disappointments, I often wondered if I would ever find my match, my perfect fit, the one that could keep up with my busy lifestyle and still make me feel happy and safe. I was sick of putting myself out there, time and time again, always starting off so full of hope, but ending up left with a roller coaster of emotions, physical pain and even the occasional rash.
But all of that is behind me now, because I am 2 years into the most successful relationship I have ever been in. We had a few bumps along the way, but I have never felt so safe, so free or so sure of anything in my life. No, I am not talking about my boyfriend (although he and I are doing great, thanks for asking!) I am talking about my current form of birth control. Continue Reading
