How to Master Eagle Position

Of all the sex positions out there, this is one you might be doing already (and if so I’m going to show you how to do it even better). A riff on Missionary, it gives satisfyingly deep penetration, and lots of delicious eye contact. Interestingly…it’s also the #1 searched sex position in the states of Alabama, Maine and Rhode Island.

Meet Eagle Position

Eagle Position has the receiving partner on their back, spreading their legs wide – just like the wings of an eagle.

The receiving partner lays down and raises their hips to meet their partner, bending or straightening their knees to their comfort level. The penetrating partner kneels over them, supporting themselves with their hands on either side of their partner’s body. This position can be used with a strap-on, and it can also be adapted for anal sex.

Why do people love Eagle Position?

If you’re already a frequent flier of Eagle, you know it offers amazing clitoral, G-spot, and P-spot stimulation. If you enjoy the feeling of deep penetration, Eagle is perfect for you.

But there’s also close, face-to-face eye contact, immediate feedback, and an excellent opportunity for a sex wedge. Placed underneath the receiving partner’s hips, this will help sex feel more comfortable due to the raised angle of the vagina and pelvis. (There’s also something sexy and naughty-feeling about using a wedge? IYKYK.)

Finally, there’s the intensity factor. Eagle may be a hop skip and a jump away from Missionary, but it feels wilder, more kinky, and more physically intense than Missionary. That’s because it is!

Tricks to make Eagle feel even better

Straightforward as it may seem, this sex position is considered medium-level in terms of comfort and ability. Here’s what I recommend to make it feel good for both people:

Receiving partners: start with legs free in the air.

This will tell you how much your hamstrings can take in this position. Because no denying it, Eagle does call for modest hamstring flexibility. Let’s not go pulling a muscle in the heat of passion.

Explore other leg placements.

If legs in the air feels good, receiving partners can also try hooking their legs into your partner’s inner elbows. If that feels good, try hooking your legs over their shoulders. Or, one leg hooked over the shoulder, the other free. Lots of leg options.

Pull them in.

Receiving partners have free hands that they can use to pull their partner in deeper. Up the intensity by grabbing their hips, ass or thighs, and pulling them in while they thrust.

Kneel when you’re on top.

Giving partners can sit back on their shins and knees, brace themselves with one hand, and hold their partner’s leg on their shoulder with the other.

Try anal stimulation.

In Eagle, the giving partner also has room to finger their partner’s anus, which definitely spices things up. Just make sure the receiving partner is relaxed and ready, you’ve applied lube liberally, and you’ve massaged the sphincter with the pad of your finger before penetrating.

Things to be aware of during Eagle…

It looks free and powerful (just like it’s namesake) but Eagle does present a few bodily challenges. To me, the main two are:

Anal

This is a fairly intense position for anal sex. But an anal vibrator helps the body relax immensely. So if you want to try Eagle for anal, know that it might help to explore anal penetration with the vibrator first, before penetration with a penis or strap-on.

Lower back pain

I’ve touched on hamstring flexibility already, but if you’re the receiving partner, another area to be mindful of is the lower back. You’re very curled up here, putting your lumbar spine in a unique position: thrusting can aggravate weak or damaged muscles if you’re prone to lower back pain. If this feels uncomfortable I recommend a sex wedge to immediately take the pressure off this area.
